Paint 3D Text: Design, Light & Export 3D Text
3D text turns words into objects that stand out from the canvas, which makes it perfect for YouTube thumbnails, logos, title cards, and school projects. This guide goes beyond adding text: it covers designing, lighting, and exporting 3D text. For the basic steps of adding both 2D and 3D text, see how to add text in Paint 3D.
Create 3D text
- Open the Text tab and choose 3D text.
- Drag a text box on the canvas and type your words.
- Pick a font, size, and color in the side panel. Bold, heavy fonts give the strongest 3D effect.
- Click outside the box to turn the text into a 3D object.
Design tips for great 3D text
- Tilt it slightly. A small tilt with the rotation handles shows off the depth; text facing straight on looks flat.
- Layer words. Place separate words at different depths for a dynamic title.
- Add a backdrop. Put the text in front of a 3D shape such as a flattened cube to create a sign or badge.
- Use contrast. Light text on a dark background, or the reverse, keeps titles readable.
Light your 3D text
Open the Effects tab to change the lighting of the whole scene. Pick a filter to set the mood, then turn the light wheel to change the direction light falls on your letters. Side lighting brings out the depth of 3D text the most.
