Paint 3D has a dedicated Crop tool in the top toolbar, so cropping an image takes just a few clicks. You can drag the edges freely, lock a set aspect ratio, or type exact pixel dimensions. If you want to change the size of the whole image instead of trimming it, see how to resize an image in Paint 3D.

Method 1: Use the Crop tool

  1. Open your image with Menu > Open > Browse files.
  2. Click Crop on the right side of the top toolbar.
  3. Drag the white handles on the edges and corners to frame the area you want to keep.
  4. For an exact size, type the Width and Height in pixels in the side panel. Tick Lock aspect ratio to keep proportions.
  5. Click Done to apply the crop.

Method 2: Crop with the Canvas tab

  1. Open the Canvas tab.
  2. Untick “Resize image with canvas” so the picture itself is not scaled.
  3. Enter smaller width and height values, or drag the canvas handles inward.

Tip: Common social sizes are 1080 x 1080 px (square post), 1080 x 1920 px (story), and 1200 x 630 px (link preview). Type them straight into the Crop panel.

Save the cropped image

Use Menu > Save as > Image and choose PNG for the best quality or JPEG for a smaller file. Saving under a new name keeps your original photo untouched.

FAQ

Can I crop a circle in Paint 3D?

Not directly. The Crop tool is rectangular. For a round cutout, use Magic Select or a 2D circle shape as a guide, then save on a transparent canvas.

Can I undo a crop?

Yes. Press Ctrl + Z straight after cropping, or use Menu > History to step back.
